COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- Columbia County dispatchers said two teenagers were rescued after they were stranded near a waterfall at Savannah Rapids Pavilion.

The call came in at 8 p.m. Sunday.

Columbia County Sheriff's Office Maj. Steve Morris said the 17-year-olds were in a canoe and lost control due to the current and became stranded on the dam near the Savannah Rapid Pavilion head gates.

A witness said the canoe flipped over.

Columbia County Fire Rescue, Augusta Fire Rescue, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and Merriwether (S.C.) Fire Rescue responded to the scene.

Around 8:45, swift-water rescue crews from Merriwether and Augusta Fire were able to rescue both teens, who were transported to Augusta University Health for further evaluations.

They were in good condition, Morris reported.
