AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) -- South Carolina Highway Patrol confirms the driver of the dump truck involved in a morning crash has died. The truck flipped on its side after hitting an overpass.

The crash happened around 5:48 a.m. on Beech Island Avenue and Atomic Road. The truck bed was up and hit the overpass at Williston Road.

The Aiken County Coroner's Office tells us Relford R. Lanier Jr., 60, was killed in the crash. He was driving the dump truck, and crews say he was ejected from the vehicle.

The Department of Transportation has checked the overpass bridge on the side of impact.

The operating manager of BK Grading and Paving, the company that owns the truck, told News 12 the driver of the semi was in "bad shape". He called it a freak accident and that he believes the truck bed flew up while driving down the road, and there was nothing to do to stop it.
