UPDATE: Coroner identifies victim in deadly South Augusta crash

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) --

3:25 p.m.

The Richmond County Coroner released new details following a fatal car crash on Old Waynesboro Road and Hephzibah-McBean Road.

The Coroner said the call came in just after 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. The driver of the vehicle is identified as 45-year-old Shannon Golphin of Goshen Drive. He was pronounced dead just before 11:00 a.m. at the scene.

Investigators said Golphin was traveling south on Old Waynesboro Road when he reportedly didn't stop at the intersection of Hephzibah-McBean road. The car left the road, and struck a tree.

1:05 p.m.

The Richmond County Coroner's Office said they're on the scene of a fatal accident in South Augusta.

The Coroner told News 12 it happened at Old Waynesboro Road and Hephzibah-McBean Road. The accident reportedly involved just one car, and claimed one life.

The investigation is in its early stages, and the Coroner is working on notifying next of kin. More details are on the way. News 12 has a crew on its way to the scene. Stay with News 12 for updates.
