UPDATE | Victim identified in deadly Wrightsboro Road pedestrian accident

3:56 p.m.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- A pedestrian hit and killed on Wrightsboro Road early Wednesday morning has been identified as 67-year-old Charles Hill.

According to the Coroner's Office, Hill was homeless and was pronounced dead around 8:30 a.m. at Augusta University Medical Center. An autopsy is still scheduled to be performed at the GBI Crime Lab on Thursday.

No charges have been filed in the crash. The investigation is still ongoing.


10:59 a.m.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- The Richmond County Coroner's Office says a man was walking eastbound on Wrightsboro Road at McCauley Street when he was struck by a car.

The man, currently unidentified, was taken to Augusta University Medical Center where he died. He was pronounced dead around 8:30 a.m.

Preliminary investigation revealed the driver was traveling east on Wrightsboro Road approaching railroad tracks. The pedestrian was walking westbound in the eastbound lane pushing a grocery cart. As the driver approached closer to the intersection, the front of their Jeep Liberty struck the pedestrian. No charges have been made at this time.

Coroner Mark Bowen says the man will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur for an autopsy. As of right now, the Sheriff's Office and the Coroner's Office are both working the incident.

An identification of the victim will be made when the victim is positively identified and next of kin are notified.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- The Richmond County Coroner's Office confirms they are on their way to an accident involving a pedestrian on Wrightsboro Road.

According to dispatch, the accident happened near the intersection of McCauley Street around 8 am Wednesday.
