Car pulled out of cotton field after accident on Hammond Rd. in Beech Island

UPDATE: 7:30 p.m.

BEECH ISLAND, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) -- South Carolina Highway Patrol has released information about the car crash on Hammond Road in Beech Island today.

Officials say it happened at 2:26 p.m. on Hammond Rd. near River Bend Drive. They say the crash involved a 2007 Toyota SUV and only one person in the car.

Officials say the driver was traveling west on Hammond Rd., ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a ditch and overturned.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt a the time of the crash according to SCHP. They say the driver was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay.

The driver was also charged with driving too fast for conditions and for not wearing a seat belt.

Our reporter on the scene says a damaged car is being pulled out of a cotton field. Witnesses told us the car landed upside down.

We are working to confirm what happened and the condition of the driver.

However, witnesses on the scene say the driver was badly hurt, but is expected to be okay. They say the driver was alert and conscious.
