Augusta, GA (WRDW/WAGT)-- This year marks 20 for the children's hospital of Georgia.
For two decades doctors and nurses have helped sick kids.
The hospital is choosing to begin the celebration now because, construction began at this time twenty years ago.
They'll be celebrating with stories about their children, physicians, services, and the unique care plan offered at the hospital.
The celebration will wrap up with an end of the year party.
Twenty years of putting family's first
"I'm a mother of two and both of my kids have spent some time here but while before I had children this place just warms your heart and to know that we have it right here in Augusta Georgia and our backyard there's just no words to describe what a wonderful feeling that is."
Designed by kids, for kids. The hospital caters to the needs of children and their families.
"Most of the hospitals in our region are really adult hospitals and children are not little adults children from the tiniest of babies to adolescence require different levels of care and different types of equipment throughout the entire continuum of age."
They've worked to set themselves apart with groundbreaking research.
Liska says one day they hope diseases like pediatric cancer no longer exist.
"We have to visions that take care of the tiniest babies today to have surgery to do to have special disease types and it's just not about our physicians it's about our entire care platform."
The Children's Hospital hopes to continue it's growth for years to come.
"Every day there's just more things taking place that like I said whether it's just to make the day-to-day experience better here or to make healthcare another 20 years down the road that much better."
