Jigs, swimbaits, and spinnerbaits are Buckeye Lures specialty. They were first started 18 years ago by father and son, Roy and Jeremy Altman. "That was when my father decided to fish the FLW Tour as a co-angler, so he went and traveled and kind of saw a need for a shaky head called the Spot Remover", says Jeremy Altman.

The Spot Remover was an instant hit. The father son brand began stocking their lures in local tackle shops around Augusta and then Buckeye Lures started attracting some big names. "We are now a nationwide brand. We started locally stocking some of the local tackle shops here and since 2005 we started going nationwide with WalMart, Bass Pro, Cabelas, Dicks. We are now as far as California. We are in a couple thousand stores nationwide", says General Manager Richard Wiebe.

The nationwide brand is even starting to tap into markets across borders and seas. "We are starting to get into the Canadian market doing a few things over in Spain. You know to just kind of increase our distribution best we can in that market" Altman explained.

Buckeye also sponsors some of the biggest names in professional bass fishing. "I'd say more than half of our jigs have been developed by Davy Hite, Anthony Gagliardi, Gerald Swindle, Russ Lane, Jason Williamson. They've been crucial" says Wiebe.

Owner Jeremy Altman says the most rewarding part of Buckeye is walking into almost any outdoor store and seeing his lures on display. "It's just real rewarding to kind of look at that and know where it comes from and know how little you were at the beginning to get to where you are there" Altman said.

So if you're going fishing this weekend and pick up some Buckeye Lures, you know you'll be supporting an American made and locally owned business.
