AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- A Richmond County deputy is uninjured after a shooting over the weekend. Officials say he shot a man who had a knife.
The GBI is investigating the incident that happened Sunday around 5:06 a.m.
In a Sunday press release, the GBI said information revealed an RCSO deputy responded to a call about someone reportedly firing shots in the area of 12th Street and Maxwell Street. Deputy Ray Parker found Malik Williamson at the 1100 block of Anderson Avenue, which runs parallel to Maxwell Street.
GBI investigators say the 33-year-old suspect refused to obey Deputy Parker's commands. Williamson allegedly turned away from the deputy before pulling out a knife from his waistband. The GBI says that's when the deputy shot Williamson.
Williamson was transported to Augusta University Medical Center where he is being treated for his injuries. Sheriff deputies performed first aid on Williamson until EMS arrived.
A GBI spokesman confirmed Williamson is not facing any charges. We're looking further into that Monday on News 12 at 6 O'Clock.
