AUGUSTA, GA (WRDW/WAGT) -- At least four district attorneys in the metro Atlanta area have pledged to not prosecute women when the controversial new heartbeat law goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2020.

We asked Augusta District Attorney Natalie Paine her take on enforcing the new law.

In an email, Paine said it would be a violation of her oath to enforce laws as a Constitutional officer if she decided to not prosecute any statute legally enacted by the state legislature.

"All criminal cases that are referred to my office are reviewed on an individual basis for prosecutorial merit," Paine wrote. "No two criminal cases are alike and as such, I cannot speculate as to what my office will do without specific facts."
