AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- Augusta Mall is reopening today after weeks of closure due to the coronavirus pandemic.
With a message saying we're all "in this together," the mall is deciding to open its doors after closing
According to the mall's website, certain stores and the food court will reopen.
Only one store was open Monday at the mall, but that will change starting today.
It’s adding new safety measures, including cleaning busy areas, social distancing and plexiglass at some registers. There’s even contact-free curbside pickup for anyone who doesn’t want to go inside.
Most malls in Atlanta are open for business again, as well. Doors opened Monday morning – and though it was far from normal, shoppers were walking around.
At the Town Center at Cobb, there were social distance markers and people wearing masks. The biggest difference: About half of the stores were closed, as well as most restaurants in the food court.
“I think people are just a little bit cautious, you know,” one shopper said, “but everybody seems to be in a blessed mood and I think people are relieved, but it still feels surreal.”
There was a long line of shoppers waiting to get inside at Lenox Square. Anyone who did not have a face mask got one as they came in.
