COLUMBIA COUNTY, GA (WRDW/WAGT) – We’re learning more about allegations at another daycare in Columbia County.
A woman has lost her job at Appletree Academy II on Fury’s Ferry Road.
The incident happened Thursday after staff looked back at surveillance footage of one of the classrooms. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office hasn’t said what exactly the daycare worker is accused of doing, but the daycare owner told us it was against the “corporal punishment policy.”
This new allegation joins two others in North Augusta and Aiken where daycare employees have been accused of abusing children.
A Columbia County investigation report lists three victims under the age of 4 years old. Investigators say they "observed multiple other incidents" while watching the video footage.
Appletree Academy II’s owner said in a statement: "I want everyone to know we reported this incident. We have been in the contact with the sheriff’s department and our licensing department to get this resolved."
The sheriff’s office says the criminal case is under review and Georgia's Department of Early Care and Learning says they've launched their own investigation.
The director also added that all parents, not just the ones directly involved, were notified of what happened.
It's still unclear if any of this will rise to the criminal level. One of the parents says she doesn't feel that whatever happened was to the point her child would be scarred.
Websites like South Carolina's SCChildcare.govand Georgia's DECAL website show the results of state investigations and any other violations that have come out of past inspections. Both sites are available to anyone.
Georgia’s DECAL page showed on violation for Appletree Academy from February 2019.
