RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- Sheriff Roundtree stated in a recent news conference on Friday that Deputy Stephan Psillos is expected to make a full recovery.

Deputy Psillos responded to the Residence Inn on Marks Church Road Thursday night.

Sheriff Roundtree said Deputy Psillos' left shoulder was injured due to being stabbed. The deputy also suffered a laceration to the scalp.

RCSO Deputies did respond to backup and CPR was administered but the suspect, Jack Fields, Jr., died at the scene.

During the news conference, Sheriff Roundtree said Deputy Psillos served 6 years as a US Marine. The Sheriff says what makes the job so difficult, why pay raise fights can be so frustrating because no matter how much training is given, he can't make the promise that they'll all be safe.
