AIKEN, SC (WRDW/WAGT) -- Video surveillance footage appears to show an Aiken County daycare worker abusing children, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

Markita Nicole Rainey, 31, has been charged with five counts of unlawful conduct towards a child.

DPS officials say Rainey was charged after daycare staff at a facility on Summerwood Way were alerted to possible abuse in Rainey's classroom on April 22.

The next day, staff took a look at video of Rainey's classroom and say they observed her slapping a 1-year-old with an open hand, tossing children onto mats, and pushing another child to the floor.

Rainey, DPS officials say, was immediately asked to leave the facility. She was later arrested and charged.

Rainey is currently at the Aiken County Detention Center.
