UPDATE | Tanker truck driver fell asleep, ran off roadway in Columbia County

UPDATE 8:07 p.m.

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- One lane is open again on Old Appling-Harlem Highway at Wrightsboro Road.

5:48 p.m.

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- The Columbia County Sheriff's Office tells News 12 a fully-loaded milk tanker truck was driving south on Old Appling-Harlem Highway when the driver fell asleep at the wheel.

Driver Marcus Lafiamma Reeves says that's when he drifted onto the west shoulder and into a ditch.

It's unclear whether Reeves was injured in the crash.

The section of the roadway between Wrightsboro Rd and Powell Church Rd is blocked due to a fuel spill.

4:38 p.m.

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- Crews are working an accident involving a tanker truck on the Old Appling-Harlem highway at Wrightsboro Road.

Reports say an environmental crew has been called in to help with a diesel leak.

Details on injuries and possible lanes blocked are limited as the scene is still active.
