UPDATE | Deputies identify 13-year-old struck and killed in Burke County

BURKE COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- Deputies have identified the 13-year-old who passed away after being struck by a vehicle while walking near Ebenezer Church Road early Saturday morning.

According to deputies, Alexis Russell died in the early morning accident. Russell was walking with another 14-year-old near Highway 23 at the time of the accident.

Deputies say the 14-year-old did not suffer any injuries.

The sheriff's office says Georgia State troopers are investigating.

BURKE COUNTY, Ga. -- (WRDW/WAGT) Saturday morning just after 4:00AM, the Burke County Sheriff's Office and Burke County EMA - Fire-Rescue responded to Ebenezer Church Road right off Highway 23 for a pedestrian hit.

Deputies say a 13 year old girl was out walking with her friend in the roadway when a car hit and killed her.
