AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) -- A string of shootings and an assault early today left at least two people dead and two injured in and around Aiken.

It all started unfolding early this morning:

First shooting

The first shooting occurred around 12:30 a.m. in the 600 block of Aldrich Street near the Crosland Apartments, according to authorities.

Devin Williams of Alderman Street in Aiken was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:16 a.m. from at least one gunshot wound, according to Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables. Williams will be autopsied in Newberry.

The Aiken Department of Public Safety is continuing the investigation, and authorities do not have descriptions of any suspects yet.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Aiken Public Safety at 803-642-7620 or Midlands Crime Stoppers at 888-274-6372.

Second shooting

About two hours after the first shooting, another one killed one person and critically injured another.

It happened around 2:30 a.m. in the 2900 block of South Carolina Avenue near Vaucluse Road, according to the coroner.

The victims were in a car outside a residence.

A male victim was found in the driver seat of the car that had rolled into a wood line, and he was pronounced dead at 3:01 a.m. from at least one gunshot wound, Ables reported.

Ables identified the dead man as 25-year-old Brandon Odom of South Carolina Avenue. He will be autopsied in Newberry.

A second victim found in the area had suffered at least one gunshot wound and was taken to an Augusta hospital in critical condition, according to the coroner.

Authorities at the scene said a survivor of the incident ran through the woods to Eutaw Street and flagged down an officer who happened to be passing by.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.

Both Eutaw Street and South Carolina Avenue were blocked by officers.

Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact the sheriff’s agency at 803-648-6811 or Midlands Crime Stoppers at 888-274-6372.

Hammer assault

Then around 5:45 a.m., another incident was reported just east of Aiken. It was initially thought to be a shooting but later appeared to be an assault with a hammer.

Emergency medical crews were sent to the Enmarket in the 2000 block of Charleston Highway, where a woman had called authorities to report that her husband had been injured.

The incident didn't happen at the market but occurred on Red Oak Drive near Wagener Road and Main Drive, according to the Aiken County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities were still trying to work out all the details late this morning. But they said some people went to a house to work on a carburetor on a four-wheeler. Someone in the house asked if an individual was there, then an argument began, and someone was hit with a hammer, authorities said.

Officers wouldn't give News 12 access to Red Oak Drive, where they said the situation wasn't safe because a suspect was in the area.

Third shooting

Just after 7:30 a.m. a 38-year-old man suffered two gunshot wounds to the chest on J.B. Swartz Road near Wagener, northeast of Aiken.

Authorities said a 17-year-old suspect was in custody, accused of shooting a family member during an argument.

The victim was conscious and alert when he was transported to the hospital, according to authorities, who said they knew that this incident was not related to the other shootings.
