(WRDW/WAGT) -- When City Hospital, later to become University, barred African American physicians, they opened the Burruss Sanitarium.

Named for Dr. George Burruss, it became one of the premier African-American hospitals in the south in the early 20th Century, the Burruss Sanitarium sat at the corner of Gwinnett and Campbell.
