Mike Jakucionis joined the On Your Sidelines sports team in June of 2019.
Mike originally hails from New Jersey and grew up around sports. If he wasn't playing something, chances are he was at a Jets game in the fall or a Mets game in the summer. He saw the final playoff game at Shea Stadium in 2006 and the final game at Giants stadium in 2010.
He fell in love with the South while attending Furman University, where he studied communications and film studies. During his senior year, he interned with WYFF 4 in Greenville, South Carolina. He spent his weekends on the sidelines at high school and college football games in the fall, and then on the basketball baseline and behind homeplate in the spring.
After graduating in 2018, Mike entered the industry as the weekend sports anchor with WBKB News in Alpena, Michigan. Some of his favorite stories there included deer and elk poles, snowmobile racing, and the 2019 Sno*Drift Rally Race.
Mike is very happy to be back in the warmth of the South following his time in Michigan. In his off time, you may see him watching the GreenJackets and enjoying the rest of what the River Region has to offer.
