Ciara Cummings joined the WRDW team in October 2017. As a Florida native, she brought the sunshine, her newsroom experience and a passion for storytelling along with her.
Though Ciara is originally from Orlando, FL she comes to us from the University of South Florida (Go Bulls!). There she earned her BA in Mass Communications with a concentration in Broadcast News. She completed five internships during her four years there.
As an intern, she worked in one of the nation's leading markets for the top two news stations in Tampa; WFLA NewsChannel 8 and WTVT Fox 13 News. She gained invaluable experience sharing stories that mattered to Tampa viewers and being active in the community. Ciara credits these two experiences for her ability to successfully work in a fast-paced, hectic, demanding environment like news.
It was her beginning opportunities like anchoring and reporting for WUSF's Florida Focus Newsbreak which prepared her as well. Ciara was also a radio host for Bulls Radio where she covered entertainment news and local community politics. And as a reporting intern for USF's College of Arts & Sciences, she helped manage its website, social media and produce YouTube segments. She plans to use that same competitive and dedicated work ethic to share the stories of the CSRA.
In her downtime, she enjoys reading, journaling, excessive napping and a quality cup of coffee.
She is already a proud member of organizations like the National Association of Black Journalists and a mentor for LANES. Now she's happy to be the newest member of another excellent team, News 12 NBC 26.
If there's a story you want her to share, don't hesitate to reach out.
