Don Shipman

Don Shipman joined Atlanta News First in the spring of 2022 as a general assignment reporter bringing with him nearly 25 years of journalism experience.

Most recently Don served as anchor and lead investigative reporter for 22News in Springfield, Massachusetts. Don covered New England’s most historic events, including the COVID-19 pandemic. Most notably, his investigative reporting helped to uncover a COVID-19 outbreak at a state-run nursing home that claimed the lives of dozens of military veteran seniors. Don has also extensively reported on the plight of homelessness throughout Massachusetts.

A native upstate New Yorker, Don began his career in TV news as a reporter and evening news anchor in his hometown of Utica, New York.

Don has been actively involved in the American Heart Association, the United Way, Hospice, and is currently a member of the Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists.

Don has family roots in the south. His late grandmother lived - and extended family still live - in Vidalia, Georgia, where Don spent many happy summers as a child.

Don is excited to return to Georgia and proud to call Atlanta home. He and his husband Adam look forward to exploring all that the region has to offer.

In his spare time, you can find Don at his local CrossFit box, drinking way too much coffee (mocha latte), going on OneWheel adventures, and spending family time with his husband and their dog, Viktor.
