According to the Augusta Fire Department, the engine slowed down to navigate a speed bump in front of the Goodwill when the pavement unexpectedly collapsed.
News 12 measured the sinkhole and found it to be 30 inches by 24 inches and 5 and a half feet deep.
No damage was found.
Augusta fire vehicles have had several incidents in recent months. In January, two Augusta fire trucks overturned in one week. “Locked up” brakes were blamed for both incidents.
In May, another vehicle ran over a body on the scene of a weekend shooting that left two dead and four others injured.
