Name released for Augusta man killed in I-20 crash

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - An accident involving a flipped-over vehicle killed one person on Monday.

According to authorities, at 1:09 p.m., the Richmond County Sheriff’s Traffic Division responded to the I-20 Eastbound exit ramp to I-520 Westbound in reference to a crash with injuries.

According to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen, Matthew Lowery, 57, was pronounced dead on the scene at 2:15 p.m.

Upon arrival, the driver was receiving CPR from first responders and would later succumb to his injuries, according to authorities.

The investigation showed the vehicle exited the roadway in an uncontrolled manner and struck several items before coming to rest upside down. The driver was ejected through the front windshield, according to authorities.

According to authorities, this was a single-vehicle accident with no other persons or vehicles involved, no further information will be released due to the active investigation.

Lowery was the only occupant of the vehicle and was ejected from the vehicle.
