A heavyweight showdown between Evans and North Augusta
Under the Lights
EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - You couldn’t have asked for a better setting for a showdown between two local football heavyweights under the lights.
The battle between North Augusta and Evans was a great way to start the season.
For North Augusta, first-year head coach Matt Quinn is working to bring a winning culture back for the Yellowjackets.
“My expectation is that the kids play hard,” he said. “The goals are there: We want to win as many games as we can, but the expectation is to play hard and to play North Augusta football every Friday night.”

He said he wants to establish “that North Augusta football is back.”
Evans lost in the second round of the playoffs last year. No Columbia County team has made it further than that since 1987.
“Our goal is always to compete for region and make the playoffs and make it as deep as we can,” Evans head coach Barrett Davis said
“Our goals never change. We try to go as far as we can, and we’ll play football as long as they’ll let us.”
The showdown Friday night could set the tone for the future of both programs.
Evans hadn’t beaten North Augusta since 1997 – until Friday night.
Evans won 16-7.
