Local stores ready to sell gear after Georgia football win
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Although Monday night’s College Football Playoff National Championship game was in Indianapolis, local sports apparel retailers were ready to sell memorabilia marking the Bulldogs’ win as soon as it happened.
That meant opening the store in the middle of the night.
The Dick’s Sporting Goods store at Augusta Mall said it was extending its hours Monday night and would offer championship gear immediately after the game, pending a Georgia Bulldogs win. And on Tuesday, the store will open early at 7 a.m.
Academy Sports at 4210 Washington Road in Evans said it would reopen immediately after the game to sell the gear.
Some of the merchandise arrived last week at the Academy store.
Boxes were filled with T-shirts, banners, decals and more.
We spoke with one of the managers here at Academy Sports who’s confident it’ll be in your closet soon enough.
Ben Cannon said the exclusive merch would be out on the shelf, but he might be in the back recovering from his excitement.
“Probably coming close to a heart attack. That’s what I did when the Braves won,” said Cannon.
