AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Hundreds of local families now have gifts and food for the holidays. It’s all thanks to the Empty Stocking Fund. The United Way, Community Foundation and Goodwill are all partnering up to help give back.

You could see cars driving through the Kroc Center on Wednesday to pick up gifts.

Golden Harvest was also there to give out boxes of fresh food.

We talked to the president and CEO of United Way, who says this program is about giving every family the Christmas they deserve.

“Families have actually been able to shop for gifts for their kids. ... They’ve been packed up, and these are the gifts they’ve chosen and are being loaded into their cars so their kids will receive the gift they want this Christmas,” said Brittany Burnett, president and CEO of the United Way.

This year, the Empty Stocking Fund doubled its normal distributions after partnering with the Empty Stocking Fund in Atlanta.

Normally, it helps around 200 families for a normal distribution. On Wednesday, they were on track to help more than 400.
