Ga. elections chief speaks on amending state constitution
ATLANTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Today, Georgia’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger spoke out in support of amending the state constitution.
During a press conference today, he was joined by an organization called Americans for Citizens Voting. He wants state lawmakers to change the constitution so that only american citizens can vote in municipal elections.
Raffensperger was the first person in Georgia to sign a new petition asking legislatures to ensure that’s what happens in Georgia elections.
“I understand how important is it to have the right to vote. People have fought for it and marched for it. It’s a very important right and when people go through the lawful process if they weren’t born here they really so value American citizenship,” he said.
The organization claims at least eight states have introduced legislation to allow non-citizens to vote.
