Georgia faith leaders pray, protest for action on voting rights

ATLANTA (WRDW/WAGT) - Georgia faith leaders gathered for a prayer and protest event on voting rights at the Georgia Capitol.

The event began at noon at the Capitol’s Liberty Plaza.

Among those attending are African Methodist Episcopal Bishop Reginald Jackson.

The protest came a day after Sen. Raphael Warnock promised to move forward with voting rights legislation on the national level.

He says we need the John Lewis Voting Rights Act

“It has a powerful tool called pre-clearance, which will protect future elections. we’ve got to find a way to protect the assault on democracy that’s happening right now,” he said.

The Georgia Democrat says the legislation is the right step toward correcting what the voting law did in Georgia.
