DEVEREUX, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Authorities said Sunday a suspect has been arrested in connection with a Hancock County homicide.

On Saturday, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation obtained an arrest warrant for Christopher Collin Demmon, 33, who’s charged with malice murder in connection with the death of a person found in Hancock County on Friday.

Demmon is currently in custody in Aiken County, S.C., and will be transported to Hancock County, the GBI said in a statement.

At about 6:57 p.m. Friday, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office got a report that a deceased person had been found on a property on Main Street in Devereux, an unincorporated community less than 5 miles southwest of Sparta.

The sheriff’s agency requested the GBI’s assistance on the case.

The preliminary investigation reveals Demmon and another person lived at the residence on occasion.

Agents and Hancock County investigators are interviewing neighbors and people who have knowledge of the incident.

Positive identification of the deceased is pending. The body was transported to the GBI crime lab in Decatur for autopsy.
