AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - One local Augusta woman created a nonprofit organization, Purses Filled With Passion, to uplift and empower other women facing challenges in the community.

Deborah Brooks says God sent her a message to give back and care for women, to remind them of their strength. She believes that behind every broken woman is a story.

“At one time I was that woman. I knew what I went through, and I felt that I was lost,” said Brooks. “People are hurting everywhere, it has nothing to do with race or color. Its about pain.”

Pain that she wanted to turn to passion, so she did just that through a woman’s favorite accessory.

“I said I will gather purses and fill these purses with passion. Toiletries, different things, cosmetics, anything a woman may need,” said Brooks. “When we look good, we feel good. Its what’s inside of that purse. Its what’s inside of that woman.”

She says that love generates love.

“What is so exciting is that other women are joining in and delivering they are bringing purses they are going to their closets,” said Brooks.

She says magic happens when we come together.

“If we can get our women to pull together then we will get better children,” said Brooks.

Its hope that keeps her going, working to turn brokenness to beauty.
