AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - We started off your Wednesday morning with temperatures in the 30s and low 40s across the CSRA. McDuffie and Saluda counties also saw temperatures in the upper 20s. Clear skies this morning will give way to mostly sunny skies heading into this afternoon. Cloud cover will increase across the region after about 2 PM heading into this evening. Highs will remain above average today in the mid to upper 60s. Winds will be out of the east-southeast between 3-8 mph.

A few isolated showers are possible Wednesday night into Thursday morning as our next front approaches. Lows early Thursday are expected to remain in the 50s.

Looking ahead to Christmas eve, we are expecting rain Thursday as a strong cold front moves through the Southeast. Isolated showers look possible Thursday morning, but highest rain chances are currently around midday and afternoon hours Thursday between 10 am and 5 pm. Winds will be getting windy as the front moves through the region. Winds are expected to be sustained between 15-20 mph and gusts 35+ mph. Lake Wind Advisories will likely be issued. Highs on Thursday are expected to be in the mid to upper 60s in the central CSRA, but the southern CSRA could get into the low 70s. There could also be a low severe weather threat as the front moves through, mainly for the eastern CSRA. Rain totals look to be between 0.75-1.50″ area wide.

Behind the front we are expecting cold temperatures with lows Christmas morning down in the upper 20s and wind chills in the mid 20 to low 20s. Sunny skies expected Friday as the front moves east of the region. Highs will be well below normal and remain in the mid 40s Friday afternoon. Winds will be out of the west between 12-18 mph. Lake wind advisories will likely be extended into Friday as well. Winds chills will be in the 20s and 30s all day Friday.

The weekend currently looks dry with highs in the mid to low 50s and sunny skies both Saturday and Sunday. Lows will be down in the mid 20s each morning.
