Richmond County deputy accused of distributing drugs to inmate
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A Richmond County deputy has been accused of distributing drugs to an inmate while working at a detention center in Augusta.
According to authorities, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office received information Wednesday that illegal substances were being brought into the Charles B. Webster Detention Center by a deputy jailer and being distributed to an inmate.
Investigators arrested Deputy Juan Scott Jr., 22, of Graniteville, S.C., and have charged him with crossing guard lines with drugs, possessing by delivery to inmate drugs, weapons or other prohibited items and violation of oath by public officer, according to authorities.
Authorities said Scott would be committed to the detention center.
Scott was hired by the sheriff’s agency on Sept. 19 and assigned as a jailer.
Authorities say the criminal investigation into the matter is ongoing, as is an internal review.
Scott will be placed on unpaid administrative leave until the completion of the investigation.
