NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - The North Augusta Department of Public Safety and Aiken County Sheriff’s Office are searching for a man they say fled authorities this morning.

The search focused on the area of Border Drive, Belair Road, Serpentine Drive and Audubon Circle.

It led to a soft lockdown at Belvedere Elementary.

Officers were using police dogs to search for the man, identified by authorities as Derian Fuller Jr.

Tim Thornton of the North Augusta Department of Public Safety said it happened after officers tried to make a traffic stop, and the driver took off for an unknown reason.

There was a brief chase, then the driver stopped the car, jumped out of it and ran, Thornton reported.

The search began around 10:45 a.m. and continued into the afternoon.
