AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of an Aiken man who was found in a crashed car in Augusta.

Two of these suspects also suffered gunshot wounds, authorities said

Marquan Patten (aka Marquan Doyle), 23, was declared dead at the scene of a vehicle crash that was reported just before 3 a.m. Tuesday at Milledge Road and Service Drive just east of Lake Olmstead and north of Calhoun Expressway.

Doyle was found in a vehicle at the site that had struck another vehicle, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Soon after the incident, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office reported that two other people suffered gunshot wounds in the incident: Marqwez Warney, 17, and a 16-year-old, both of whom suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.

Authorities later said Warney was one of the suspects in the fatal shooting. He was arrested and charged with murder, criminal attempt (felony) and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, authorities said. The 16-year-old, Lewis Wigfall, was also arrested and charged as an adult with murder, authorities reported.

On Wednesday, a third suspect was arrested.

Christopher Carlos McCrary, 21, is charged with with murder, criminal attempt (felony) and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime, according to jail records.

The shooting was part of a streak of violent crime that’s swept across the region and that reached a tipping point over the July Fourth weekend, leading Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp to declare a state of emergency and activate up to 1,000 National Guard troops to help deal with the problem.

Among the most recent incidents were the shooting early Monday of a 13-year-old girl in Waynesboro and a shooting last Tuesday that injured one person at 2706 Blossom Drive in Augusta. Days earlier, during the Fourth of July weekend, shootings left two people dead and at least five injured in the CSRA. In Atlanta that weekend, a shooting took the life of 8-year-old Secoriea Turner near the Wendy’s where Rayshard Brooks died.
