BARNWELL, S.C.---Gov. Mark Sanford was in Barnwell today for a big job announcement. Elkay Cabinet Division announced this morning that they will be bringing 300 jobs to Barnwell County.

Elkay Cabinets is part of Elkay Manufacturing Company. They make cabinets for Lowe's, Home Depot, and a midwestern company. They ship their product throughout the US and also have shops in Mexico.

The company plans to create around 300 jobs in the Barnwell area over the next 2 years.

Elkay looked into seven states as possibilities for the expansion, and it was very competitive, but they say Barnwell is a great area because of the rural location and small community feel, as well as access to good workers.

The facility will be housed in an old factory in Barnwell. Renovations to that building will begin shortly, and production will begin there in mid-2008.
