ATLANTA (AP) -- Icy roads are causing hundreds of accidents around the metro-Atlanta area.
In Atlanta, police are reporting 81 crashes Wednesday night. A five-car pileup on I-285 had lanes on the busy interstate closed.
In Gwinnett County, officials reported life-threatening injuries after a crash in Dacula.
In Cherokee County, authorities say 173 accidents have occurred since 4 p.m.
Wrecks were also reported throughout North Georgia. Officials with the state Department of Transportation urged
drivers to use caution. They said DOT crews are responding as best as possible but conditions are expected to remain treacherous at least through midnight and possibly into the Thursday morning
