FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (AP) — Some of South Carolina's coastal utility customers are seeing their first power outages blamed on Hurricane Irene's approach.
More than 2,600 customers were without power on Folly Beach on Friday morning as bands of the hurricane's wind and rains began raking the shoreline.
The outages involved multiple downed power lines including one across a bridge leading to Folly Island.
Another 1,800 people were without power on Fripp Island in Beaufort County.
