GALVESTON, Texas (AP) -- Thousands of Galveston, Texas, residents who evacuated ahead of Hurricane Ike finally get to go back home today.

One city official warns: "it's not going to be the same."

Galveston still only has limited medical, power, water and sewer
system capabilities. Storm damage is so bad on the island's west
end that residents can only visit their homes. They'll have to stay
somewhere else.

Those on other parts of the island who plan to stay are being
told to bring their own food, water and gasoline. A curfew remains
in effect from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

City leaders also are trying to set up a shuttle service to take
those living in temporary shelters back to their houses during the
day so they can make repairs and clean up.
