EDGEFIELD COUNTY, S.C.-- About an inch of snow lies on the ground in Downtown Edgefield, which is much less than the amount of snow that hit the county earlier this year.

There was snow on the ground, on many of the turkeys around downtown and the Strom Thurmond statue, but there weren't many people to be found outside Tuesday night in Edgefield.

One person you wouldn't find outside was Sharon Bibbs, an employee of the Edgefield County Board of Education.

"It's getting cold out there, just wanted to come on in," she said. "I played in it the last time but this time I just picked up a little snowball off the car and threw it at my husband and that was it."

Though she stayed out of the snow this time, she was happy to see it when it starting falling from the sky, she said.

"I was thinking we were going to have a whole day off of school," Bibbs said. "After a while I got a call saying there is a two hour delay."

Edgefield County, Saluda County and McCormick County are all experiencing a two hour delay to start the day Wednesday.

Jeff Thomas of the South Carolina Department of Transportation said there weren't very many cars on the road, which turned out to be a good thing.

"Haven't been any accidents that I know of, not today," Thomas said. "I guess people remember the last one we had."

Because the last snow storm was so heavy they didn't have to do as much to the roads, but still had to work 12 hour shifts, he said.

Employees were working shifts from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. while others had packed snacks to keep them going from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Thomas said the rain helped keep the snow from being a hazard to the roads.

Thomas recommends drivers beware because the light snow increases the possibility of black ice on the roads.
