Georgia's recent bout with Mother Nature highlights the importance of being prepared for severe weather. To educate citizens about preparedness, Severe Weather Awareness Week will be held February 19 - 23, 2007. The first major event of Severe Weather Awareness Week is Family Protection Day, which will be Monday, February 19. Everyone is urged to plan for severe weather and practice what they would do in the first 72-hours after an emergency or disaster.
All schools, businesses, government offices, nursing homes, day care centers, and other institutions are encouraged to participate in the statewide tornado drill, which will be held on Wednesday, February 21 during the morning hours. If there is a threat of severe weather on that date, the drill will be postponed until Friday, February 23.
