Sleet swept across the CSRA starting at around noon today, and some snow accumulated early in the evening.
Due to the weather, Bamberg County School District 1 closed today at 1:30. Claflin University in Orangeburg also cancelled all evening classes.
There were reports of heavy sleet falling at Evans to Locks Road and Stevens Creek Road in Columbia County. Reports also came of snow and sleet in downtown North Augusta, at the Savannah River Site, and at other locations.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR DETECTED A BAND OF SNOW AND SLEET MIXING WITH RAIN EXTENDING FROM NEAR BLYTHEWOOD IN RICHLAND COUNTY SOUTHWEST ACROSS THE COLUMBIA AREA AND EASTERN LEXINGTON COUNTY...TO WESTERN ORANGEBURG COUNTY NEAR NEESES. THE SLEET ASSOCIATED WITH THIS BAND MAY BE MODERATE AT TIMES.
SLEET WAS REPORTED IN THE AUGUSTA AREA DURING THE PAST HOUR. THIS SLEET WILL MOVE INTO CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN RICHMOND AND COLUMBIA COUNTIES.
TEMPERATURES ARE IN THE MIDDLE TO UPPER 30S ACROSS THE EASTERN MIDLANDS...AND AROUND 40 IN THE PIEDMONT AND WESTERN MIDLANDS.
TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN ABOVE FREEZING. WITH SOIL TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 50S THERE WILL BE NO ACCUMULATION. THEREFORE...THERE WILL BE NO ICE ON AREA ROADWAYS.
