AUGUSTA, Ga. --- Hanna is heading to the Georgia-South Carolina line. She won't be here until Friday or Saturday, but emergency services and Red Cross organization in our area are getting ready for her arrival.
The Aiken County Red Cross is already getting its shelter locations ready. Each Red Cross Chapter has its own unique mission and for the Aiken County chapter, its focus is shelters. That's why they're planning for the strong possibility that some evacuees could end up here.
Suzanne Jackson is the Executive Director for the Aiken County chapter of Red Cross. She says the two designated locations in the county are South Aiken High and North Augusta High School. Both locations could be turned into a shelter in a matter of hours and planning for that mission is taking place right now.
Both locations combined could house up to 1200 people. In addition to that there are several other "reserve" shelters identified.
If you'd like to get in touch with the Aiken County Red Cross you can contact them at (803)641-4152.
Again, they are looking for volunteers in addition to donations as well.
