SENECA, S.C. (AP) -- Fire officials say a wildfire in an Oconee County state park is spreading and likely will continue to burn overnight.
A t.v. station in Greenville reports the fire was first estimated to be around 20 acres but had doubled in size by Thursday morning. Fire officials believe lightning sparked the blaze Wednesday night.
No homes or business are threatened by the fire.
State Forestry Commission spokesman Scott Hawkins said the fire will continue to grow because fire crews cannot easily get equipment to the remote, mountainous location in Devils Fork State Park.
Firefighters predict the fire could grow to more than a few hundred acres by the time it's contained. They hope to get more crews and equipment to the site Friday.
