AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Students at Augusta State University got down and dirty at the semi-annual Waste Audit in recognition of America Recycles Day.

Bags of trash lined the designated area for students to sort through the trash of their peers for recyclable items.

Even though the smells got stronger and the items got stranger, volunteers continued to rummage through bags from different parts of the campus.

Clinton Amos, a professor of marketing and chair of the ASU Green Committee, says this audit is great way to get young people involved in recycling and to have a better eco-friendly footprint on the earth.

This is the first year for the audit, and the ASU Green Committee hopes to continue this activity with more students involved.
