FT. GORDON, Ga. -- A release from Fort Gordon today provides good news and bad news for people traveling to the base.

The good news is Gate 5 on Tobacco Road is scheduled to re-open to normal traffic on Tuesday, February 9, 2010.

The bad news is initial construction on Gate 1 will begin on Thursday, February 11, 2010. All traffic that is entering and exiting the post will use the current outbound lanes. In addition, Gate 1 will only be taking inbound traffic from 5:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. Monday through Friday.

If you are heading to Fort Gordon between February 11 and mid-May (when they anticipate the completion), we have a few recommendations for you. If you are going to the PX or the Commissary, use Gate 5 which is the Tobacco Road entrance. If you are going to Eisenhower Army Medical Center, use Gate 2 (Robinson Avenue) off Gordon Highway or Gate 5.

They tell us speed limits in the construction zone will be reduced and strictly enforced.
