USC Aiken student killed in Highway 19 accident Save Email Print

AIKEN, S.C. --- Highway 19 was shut down Tuesday for a deadly accident. It happened around 2:30 pm.

The Aiken county coroner tells News 12 the victim an 18 year old USC Aiken student died at the scene.

Alissa Rose McCarty from Monetta was traveling east on Croft Mill Road when she failed to yield at the intersection of highway 19. A semi truck hit her PT Cruiser on the driver's side.

This crash is being investigated by South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Aiken County Coroner's Office.

The coroner says McCarty died from multiple body trauma. Toxicology is pending at this time.

This is the 26th fatal traffic crash this year in Aiken County.

First of all I'd like to send my condolences to the family and friends of the deceased young lady. To the first cousing requesting more information, try the aikenstandard.com. There was considerably more information in thier story.

I was told that the lights had been out all day at that intersection. Could that be a reason for this accident?
