The Savvy Hearing Aid Consumer

Jan 21, 2013 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

University Hospital Cafeteria Dining Rooms 1-3, 1350 Walton Way
Gloria Garner, Au.D., Audiologist
In partnership with the Hearing Loss Association of Augusta Chapter (HLAAG)
Hearing loss is the third most common chronic health condition for older individuals, and, left untreated, can lead to social isolation, strained relationships, anxiety and depression. As the technologies to improve access to communication have become increasingly sophisticated, new and experienced hearing aid users can sometimes feel overwhelmed by all of the options for themselves or for their parents. This interactive session will focus on: common causes of hearing loss, hearing aid pros and cons, understanding the rights of a hearing aid consumer, finding support, assistive listening devices and what to expect from a hearing aid provider.

T-Coil accessible and captioning provided.

5:30-6 p.m.: Mix and mingle and light refreshments with members of HLAAG, opening remarks from HLAAG President Gayle Tison
6-7 p.m.: Presentation by Gloria Garner, Au.D., Doctor of Audiology at University Speech & Hearing Center
