The American Nuclear Society Savannah River (ANS SR) section technical dinner meeting for Thursday, February 18, 2016, featuring guest speaker, Ms. Melissa Jolley, Cold War Curator at Savannah River Site (SRS). Meeting details are shown below.

DATE/TIME: February 18, 2016, with registration beginning at 6:00 PM with Section announcements and the technical presentation immediately following the conclusion of dinner.

LOCATION: ​ Bobby's BBQ (upstairs dining room), 1897 Jefferson Davis Highway (Augusta-Aiken Hwy), Warrenville, SC

COST: ​ $18 per person; ​ Educators/Students $15 per person;​ ​which is payable at the registration table (cash, check, or credit card) ​​

MENU: Chicken, pulled pork, hash and rice, green beans, potato salad, hush puppies, banana pudding, and soft beverage. (no bar available)

RESERVATION DEADLINE: ​Tuesday, February 16, 2016 (by 4:00 PM).

PRESENTATION: "Plant 142: Site Selection ​"​ is the topic of the presentation. Ms. Jolley will present the reasons Plant 124 was needed in 1950 and how it became the Savannah River Site. She will discuss the factors that led to the site location decision as well as how the project and construction led to growth in the CSRA.

GUEST SPEAKER: Ms. Jolley has been the Cold War Curator at the Savannah River Site Curation Facility since 2013. The SRS Curation Facility houses over 4,000 artifacts from across the SRS and includes documents, large equipment objects, employee memorabilia, and more. Ms. Jolley is an Aiken native, holds a B.A. in History from USC-Aiken, and has previous collections experience at Biltmore Estate, Redcliffe Plantation State Historic Site, and the Aiken County Historical Museum.

Meals from the Motherland

Meals from the Motherland is our annual black history program. Participants will enjoy a four course authentic African meal from the many different countries in Africa. The entrees are delicious and delectable to the palate. Bring your appetite and wear your favorite African attire.
