JOURNEY OF COMMUNITY, 14 STATIONS AND ANNUAL ARTS AWARDS
Sacred Heart Cultural Center
The Greater Augusta Arts Council presents Journey of Community, four days of arts and community gatherings to bring to light to the transformational work that is being done with Augusta’s homeless population by dedicated organizations.
The week begins with nationally-renowned photographer, David Michalek, exhibiting a series of photographs entitled 14 Stations at the historic Sacred Heart Cultural Center, June 17-20. 14 Stations, promoting the use of art for social change, comprises images of individuals transitioning out of homeless posed to represent images from the Christian devotional “Stations of the Cross.” Other events include: the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast, an Expert Panel Discussion on the State of Homelessness in Georgia, an Artists’ Response to 14 Stations, a sidewalk chalk art installation and a community Art. A full schedule of events is listed here.
Journey of Community culminates on Thursday evening, at 6:00 at the Sacred Heart Cultural Center, at the Arts Council’s annual presentation of Arts Awards for Augusta’s vibrant arts community members. Nominations for award winners are sent from people all over the CSRA for all different kinds of work. Winners are selected by a committee of leaders from the Greater Augusta Arts Council.
