Shepeard Blood Center needs to collect 144 units of blood per day to meet the needs of our 20 local hospitals and the regional burn center.
Shepeard is the contracted provider of blood and blood products for critically ill patients at 20 local hospitals and the regional burn center serving South Carolina and Georgia.
Every day is an emergency for someone. Someone in your local community needs your help every day. You never know when that someone could be a neighbor, friend, family member or even yourself.
Blood has to be collected, processed, distributed and on the shelf before the patient actually needs it.
O negative donors are especially needed in times of emergency because it is the blood type emergency responders reach for when seconds count. O negative is the universal blood type which means anyone can receive it.

•Be sure that you have had a good, healthy meal and plenty of water before donating.
•You must be healthy, at least 17 years-old, or 16 years-old with written parental consent, and weigh at least 110 pounds to donate blood.
•Give the gift of life and give the greatest gift someone could ever receive.
