"Walk Like MADD" 5k
Saturday, September 27th | 7am
Columbia County Amphitheater / 7022 Evans Town Center Blvd / Evans, GA 30809
Gather with friends and neighbors. Enjoy live entertainment and good food. Participate in activities for kids, teens and parents, marketplace of products and services, ignition interlock demonstrations, contests, prizes, and more!
Bring a framed photo of a victim/survivor to the event to display on the victim table and share in making a special craft to honor loved ones. Those who have been impacted by drunk driving will never be forgotten.
HelpMADD save lives and prevent injuries on our Georgia Highways. Drunk driving is 100 percent preventable. Yet, in 2013, 310 people were killed in crashes caused by a drunk driver in Georgia.
Visit the ignition interlock tent and learn how these devices make a difference. Send a letter to your state representative to pass legislation for all convicted drunk drivers with a BAC of .08 or greater. This legislative session Georgia lawmakers have the opportunity to change the odds and save lives. Pending legislation will expand the use of ignition interlocks for first-time convicted drunk drivers. Support of ignition interlocks beginning with the first time offender will help save lives by stopping drunk driving.
Currently, ignition interlocks are only required for repeat drunk drivers. Expanding the use of ignition interlocks to all convicted drunk drivers is not a new concept. In 2006, MADD began calling on all states to adopt these laws as part of its Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving. Today 24states have passed legislation to require or highly incentivize interlocks for all convicted drunk drivers
Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Augusta is holding its first ever “Walk Like MADD’ signature 5K community walk to raise funds to support MADD Augusta and raise awareness in our community about ourefforts to eliminate drunk driving and support victims of this violent crime. Register to walk or donate at www.madd.org/walkaugusta
